What is GEO software?

GEO software (Generative Engine Optimisation software) tracks how your brand appears in AI-generated answers from platforms like ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, and Google AI Overviews. It measures whether your brand is cited, how often, in what position, with what sentiment, and against which competitors.

The category emerged in 2024 and grew fast in 2025 because a structural gap opened between organic search rankings and AI citations. A brand can rank number one in Google and have zero presence in AI-generated answers. The signals that drive each are different. GEO software makes that gap visible and measurable.

Most platforms in this category track some or all of the following: brand mention rate, share of voice, citation source analysis, competitor positioning, prompt coverage, and sentiment. The better platforms also tell you which content changes would improve your citation rate and track AI crawler behaviour on your site.

How to choose the right GEO tool

The right tool depends on four variables: your budget, which AI platforms your buyers use, whether you need content execution or just monitoring, and whether compliance matters to your procurement team.

Under $250/month: Peec AI is the strongest choice for most SMB and mid-market teams. Fast to set up, clean reporting, unlimited seats, and transparent pricing. Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit at $99/month is worth considering if you already pay for Semrush SEO.

$250 to $500/month: Scrunch AI covers more AI engines (9 LLMs vs 3–4 for most competitors) and has the strongest GA4 integration for attributing AI traffic to conversions. Profound’s Growth plan at $399/month is the right fit if enterprise reporting depth and competitive intelligence matter more than breadth of engine coverage.

Enterprise: Profound for compliance-first environments (SOC 2 Type II, SSO, dedicated strategist). Scrunch AI for breadth of engine tracking. Ahrefs Brand Radar if AI visibility is one component of a large existing Ahrefs investment.

One thing to check before you buy: Ask each vendor which AI platforms they track and how. Some tools use API sampling, which returns different results than what users actually see. Peec AI and Scrunch use UI scraping to simulate real user sessions. Profound uses real user prompts. The methodology matters for data accuracy.
